Over 44,000 spectators - the largest audience Steve has ever performed in front of.
And it was like this...
Stevie Ray Vaughan was invited to play the national anthem at the Houston Astros' season opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Houston Astrodome on April 9, 1985.
Stevie agreed, but confessed to his wife Lenny Vaughan that he couldn't play "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Lenny sang the anthem to him all the way to the stadium. That was the training.
Anyway, Steve went out and played this original guitar solo in his own way. And it was the first national anthem performed on an electric slide guitar before a baseball game.
Well, somehow... What happened, happened. What do you think? Did you like it?
- Sports stars Carl Lewis and Mickey Mantle were also invited to the game.
- At Lenny's request, the legendary Mickey Mantle left his autograph on Steve's guitar to commemorate the event.
