-- FR -- Avec Luna, Elvenking conclut une gigantesque trilogie débutée en 2019 avec Reader of the Runes – Divination. Six années auront été nécessaires pour nous proposer enfin le chapitre final de cette épopée grandiloquente qui s’avère être la parfaite synthèse de ce que les Italiens nous proposent depuis leurs débuts en 1997 en Pordenone (au nord de l’Italie), à savoir un folk metal épique agrémenté quelquefois de parties black/death comme notamment ces growls sur “On These Haunted Shores“ ou "Stormcarrier" (feat. Mathias ‘Vreth’ Lillmåns de FINNTROL, ... AND OCEANS) qui viennent contrebalancer les voix claires tout en gardant cette même puissance mélodique qui les caractérise. Le côté festif est bel et bien là, la chanson-titre “Luna“ en étant un superbe exemple, entrainant à souhait. Cela sied à merveille aussi sur les chants pagan de “Throes Of Atonement“ et son hymne fédérateur, ou « Gone Epoch », ce morceaux ayant d’ailleurs été clippé et faisant office de très bon single. Là est d’ailleurs la force de Elvenking : un mixe parfaitement orchestré de toutes ces tendances. C’est particulièrement flagrant sur le titre fleuve qui clôt cet opus “Reader of the Runes – Book II“ et ses arrangements de haut volée qui nous emportent durant plus de dix minutes. Tout simplement magique et épique ! Finalement, Luna être un très bon album, même si on a l’impression parfois qu’il cède à une certaine facilité mais il ne pourra pas décevoir les mordus de folk metal rythmé avec quelques touches de metal extreme bienvenues. De toute façon, le talent est là et Aydan et ses bardes n’ont plus rien à prouver depuis toutes ces années. Et avec Reader of the Runes – Luna, la formation italienne s’avère être désormais une valeur sûre du folk power metal européen, genre musical très tendance et qui a encore de beaux jours devant lui. Malgré une carrière déjà longue, Elvenking nous surprendra-t’il avec une prochaine autre trilogie ? Dans tous les cas, on attend la suite avec impatience. That's all folks !! [Pascal]

-- ENG -- With Luna, Elvenking concludes a gigantic trilogy that began in 2019 with Reader of the Runes – Divination. Six years were needed to finally offer us the final chapter of this grandiloquent epic that turns out to be the perfect synthesis of what the Italians have been offering us since their debut in 1997 in Pordenone (northern Italy), namely epic folk metal sometimes embellished with black/death parts such as the growls on “On These Haunted Shores” or “Stormcarrier” (feat. Mathias ‘Vreth’ Lillmåns of FINNTROL, ... AND OCEANS) that counterbalance the clean vocals while keeping the same melodic power that characterizes them. The festive side is definitely there, the title song “Luna” being a superb example, catchy as can be. This also fits perfectly with the pagan chants of “Throes Of Atonement” and its unifying anthem, or “Gone Epoch”, this song having also been videoed and serving as a very good single. This is also the strength of Elvenking: a perfectly orchestrated mix of all these trends. This is particularly obvious on the river title which closes this opus “Reader of the Runes – Book II” and its high-flying arrangements which carry us away for more than ten minutes. Simply magical and epic! Finally, Luna is a very good album, even if we sometimes have the impression that it gives in to a certain ease but it will not be able to disappoint fans of rhythmic folk metal with some welcome touches of extreme metal. In any case, the talent is there and Aydan and his bards have nothing more to prove after all these years. And with Reader of the Runes – Luna, the Italian band has now proven itself to be a sure bet in European folk power metal, a very trendy musical genre that still has a bright future ahead of it. Despite an already long career, will Elvenking surprise us with another trilogy? In any case, we eagerly await the sequel. That's all folks !! [Pascal]
