Son reconocidos por ser la banda cristiana mas popular dentro del Rock y el Metal, impulsando e influenciando a muchas más bandas cristianas que vendrían después, incluso en géneros mas agresivos del Metal. Su sonido es caracterizado por guitarras muy melódicas, solos intensos junto a la potente voz de Michael Sweet.
