On this episode of Global National: Russia is slowly advancing on multiple fronts of its Ukraine invasion. Now, since the first time since the invasion, Russian-fired hypersonic missiles have killed dozens of soldiers and destroyed a military ammunitions warehouse in Mykolaiv, Ukraine. Mercedes Stephenson is in Lviv with the latest on the situation.

Russian forces are surrounding cities, crippling humanitarian supply chains and escape routes, in what appears to be a new and disturbing tactic of slowly starving civilians. Jeff Semple reports from near Odesa, Ukraine with the story.

More than 3 million people have fled the war in Ukraine and that number continues to grow. Mike Armstrong has more on why leaving the country or staying are both risky options.

And together, Russia and Ukraine are responsible for more than a quarter of the world’s wheat exports. As the war stretches into its fourth week, implications for the global food supply are becoming all too clear, with some warning potentially catastrophic consequences. Dan Spector tells us about these fears of worldwide food shortages.

Plus, a Texas wildfire has killed one person and has destroyed at least 50 homes. Jennifer Johnson reports on the deadly raging wildfires.

Also, it may be Canada’s favourite sport, but a form of hockey was being played here long before Canada existed. Ross Lord tells us about the growing recognition for the Mi’Kmaq peoples’ role in the origins of the game.
