Description:
Did you know you can visit the United States without leaving England? It sounds impossible, but it’s true! There’s a small piece of land in Surrey, England, that is officially U.S. soil. After John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963, Queen Elizabeth II gifted this one-acre plot to the United States in perpetuity for a memorial to be built in JFK's honor. Unlike embassies or military bases, this acre in Runnymede is considered American sovereign territory. So, you can technically step into the U.S. in just one second—no flight or visa needed!

If I told you that you could visit the United States without leaving England, would you believe me? Probably not, but it's true! This piece of land in Surrey, England, is officially U.S. soil, and you can step on it without a visa.
After John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963, Queen Elizabeth II gifted a symbolic one-acre plot of land west of London to the United States, so a memorial could be built in his honor. This land, located in Runnymede, was given to the U.S. in perpetuity, making it U.S. sovereign territory.
Unlike U.S. airbases or embassies in England, which remain British land, this acre is considered an American exclave in England. So, technically, you can travel from England to the U.S. in just one second, instead of the usual 7-hour flight from London to New York!
