Today's Catholic Mass Gospel and Reflection for April 6, 2025 - John 8:1-11

The Gift of Undeserved Mercy

Fifth Sunday of Lent
Year C Readings
Lectionary: 36

Verse before the Gospel: Joel 2:12-13
Even now, says the Lord, return to me with
your whole heart; for I am gracious and merciful.

Gospel: John 8:1-11
Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning, he went again to the temple, and all the people came to him. Sitting down, he taught them. Now the scribes and Pharisees brought forward a woman caught in adultery and stood her in front of them. They said to him, “Teacher, this woman was just now caught in adultery. And in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such a one. Therefore, what do you say?” They said this to test him so that they might be able to accuse him. Then Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. When they persisted in questioning him, he stood upright and said to them, “Let whoever is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone at her.” Bending down again, he wrote on the ground. Upon hearing this, they went away one by one, beginning with the eldest, until Jesus alone remained, with the woman standing before him. Then Jesus, raising himself up, said to her, “Woman, where are those who accused you? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and sin no more.”

Sunday, April 6, 2025 - A moment with GOD through HIS WORD.

Reflection: How do you respond when faced with someone else's mistakes—with judgment or with the mercy that Jesus shows you?

Prayer: Most merciful Lord, You came to call the sinner to repentance and salvation. You offer mercy and forgiveness in superabundance. When faced with the sins of others, help me to imitate Your love for them and to show mercy and compassion to the greatest degree. I love You, Lord. Help me to love You and others with Your Heart of merciful love. Jesus, I trust in You.
