Latest Cruise News for Wednesday, January 4, 2023.

Carnival Cruise Line is the latest operator to increase gratuities by 10 percent and the prices of the internet has also increased. Holland America Line has announced its 2024 Alaska schedule, which includes at 28-night Arctic Circle voyage on ms Westerdam. There are $11 billion worth of new oceangoing cruise ships newbuilds set to join the global cruise fleet this year.

Carnival is the latest cruise line to announce a hike in daily gratuities.

Starting April 1st, standard cabins will pay $16 per person, per day, up from $14.50. Suites will pay $18, up from $16.50. Both are a 10 percent increase, half of Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest 20 percent hike.

The line is also increasing the cost of its three internet packages, effective January 16th. The social package will go from $10.20 to $12.75, the value from $14.45 to $17, and the premium from $17 to $18.70.

Those who pre-pay for the gratuities or internet packages ahead of the change can lock in the current rates. The last time Carnival increased gratuities was May 1st of last year.

Last month, Norwegian announced a 20 percent gratuity hike, along with reorganizing its cabin attendants.

Holland America Details 2024 Alaska Schedule
To celebrate Alaska’s statehood day on Tuesday, Holland America revealed it will have six ships in Alaska for the 2024 season, operating over 100 weeklong cruises and a new 28-day Arctic Circle itinerary.
The 28-day sailing will depart Seattle June 9th aboard Westerdam, visiting 12 ports in Alaska and including scenic cruising to multiple glaciers.

Nieuw Amsterdam and Noordam will offer seven-day north and southbound cruises, as well as 14-day Great Alaska Explorer sailings with stops to eight Alaskan ports.

Cruise Industry to Add 37,000 Lower Berths to Global Fleet This Year
Just how big is 2023 going to be for the cruise industry? A report released by Seatrade Cruise says that 19 oceangoing ships are set to debut this year, adding over 37,000 lower berths to the global cruise fleet.

The investment in ships totals $11.34 billion.
The new vessels will be for 18 cruise brands, including MSC Group’s new luxury line Explora Journeys. It also includes the debut of the joint venture between China State Shipbuilding and Carnival Corporation, Adora Cruises.
