Bassment is a techno minimal oriented event hosted at The Shelter, established in early 2011. Originally aiming to bring dark, progressive techno rhythms of Shanghai producers and DJ's. However, over many months it has morphed into a showcase of experimental, live and new techno minimal as well as keeping its original goal of creating an atmosphere of bass and progression. Bassment has heard its fair share of techno minimal and is planning on giving back to this growing creative community. As a way of displaying the appreciation, Bassment is compiling a set of original works of its DJ's and producers that have defined, not only Bassment but also the entire techno scene in Shanghai and China. Weng Weng established himself in Chinas rock scene as a guitarist for 10 years before emerging as one of Chinas electronic music pioneers. In 1997, Weng Weng started organizing underground dance parties in Beijing. His mixing techniques impressed China's godfather of rock, Cui Jian, where he was asked to partake in Cui's band tours in 1998 and 1999. In 2000, Weng Weng, Yang Bing and Will founded 'China Pump Factory', which was hosted in Beijing's most well-known electronic music spot 'Club Vogue'. After gaining fame amongst Chinese and foreign partiers at its regular Friday nights at 'Club Loft' they soon hosted their first outdoor rave. June 17, 2000, 'China Pump Factory' threw the first Great Wall rave party, which was an unforgettable night to this day. October 2000, Weng Weng established 'Club Velvet Room', which became the most important underground rendezvous spot for Beijing electronic music lovers. In August 2001 Weng Weng was invited by Swiss DJ group 'CHEESE' to participate in the Zurich 'Street Parade', alongside fellow Chinese DJ's. Their performances gained support and were invited back to Zurich for December. In 2003 Weng Weng, Ben Huang and You Dai opened 'Club FM'. While running 'Club FM' Weng Weng kept producing and promoting electronic music, and was releasing with Modern Sky Records. In September 2007, after three years of silence Weng Weng established Acupuncture Records together with top Chinese techno DJ's. Their events 'SPOOKED', 'Genesis', 'Minimal Hit', 'Freak Djs' swept Beijing by storm and became regular household event brands in the community. In March 2008, Weng Weng was invited to participate in a culture exchange program at the Olympics Museum in Lausanne. He also performed and gained reputation for Chinese DJ's at 'Club Planetarium', Vienna, 'Club Q', Vienna and 'Club Weetamix', Geneva. Acupuncture Records earned nationwide reputation on their 2009 China Tour. In May 2009 Acupuncture Records organized China's first outdoor electronic music festival, attracting 8,000 participants, named 'INTRO'. Acupuncture never stopped on the music production journey. Their first EP release 'Ebb' was in 2008 on 'Beatport.com', which was the first time local producers/DJ's, could release through a Chinese label. Now that they are with the biggest tunes in the world, it's a watershed moment for China's electronic scene. Until now, Acupuncture has successfully released 3 EPs, 1 album and has contributed to various projects of overseas labels.
