There are few music genre names as descriptive as Quiet Storm. This smooth, sometimes jazzy style of R&B can be as subtle as a gentle rain and as powerful as the crash of thunder. These masterful songs (also sometimes referred to as Slow Jams) are often quite complex with exquisite musicianship, rich vocal layering and unexpected key & tempo changes. Though downtempo R&B had existed for decades, the official Quiet Storm style came in to popularity in the mid 70s and continued well through the 90s. You can even hear echoes of the genre in some contemporary chill Hip-Hop & EDM.
