3 Things to Consider when Choosing Gutters:

1. Size
The typical sizing used for gutters is 5”. Your roof area is the primary factor in determining the size but you may also want to consider the fascia height for aesthetics.

We chose 6” because of our roof area and we wanted it to look proportional to the height of the fascia. 5” would have looked a little small!

2. Style
The “K” profile is the most popular style but if you like the half round or a box shape, those are also an option. These are more labor intensive and some contractors may not have the equipment to make them.

All styles are commonly made from metal, typically aluminum but copper is also used on high-end custom projects.

3. Downspout Location
The downspout location will determine the slope of the gutter on your fascia. You can place the downspout on one side or on either side of the gutter.

We recommend hiring out this trade because there is special equipment needed to make the gutters seamless. If you have a simple roof line like our garage apartment, the contractors will likely make quick work of the job which translates to a very reasonable price!
