People with severe speech and motor impairment (SSMI) depend on electronic user interfaces for communication, learning and many other daily activities. However, these interfaces are often designed assuming the preference and ease of use of end users for different screen regions is the same for people with SSMI as their able bodied counterparts. We undertook a series of user studies on analysing ocular parameters for such users, proposed new design guidelines and deployed a set of eye tracker and eye gaze controlled applications. The gamut of applications includes a word construction game for primary school students, virtual keyboard and browser applications for adults and human robot interface for rehabilitation program. The talk will present our analysis on ocular parameters and video demonstration of various applications.
