Here is the new tutorial on how to solve or get back missing Volume Icon in Windows 8 or 7 or even the PC running with Vista. Here I would like to explain it in 2 steps. Before explaining the process, do cross check whether you have enable the option to show the icon in the task bar or not. To do this, right click on the task bar then select Properties. If you are using Windows 8 or Windows 7 then move to Taskbar tab, if you are using Windows Vista then find Notification tab then select the options that I'm showing here. Now here select customize then make sure you have selected Show Icon and Notification beside Volume label. If not, select it then click OK.
Now move on to the actual process. Open your task manager by typing the combination of Ctrl Alt Delete keys. Once the task manager opens, find explore.exe or just type e to find the same. End this process by selecting explorer.exe. In the next second, go to file, select Run New Task and enter explore.exe that we have ended before and click OK. That's it. It will take few seconds to reinitialize the services. In most cases this will solve the issue.
If you don't get the icon still then follow up this tutorial. Open Run by typing Windows + R buttons. Enter "regedit" which means we are editing registry. In here select HKEY
_CURRENT_USER then Software then Classes then Local setting then Software then Microsoft then Windows then Current Version then TrayNotify. Here find couple of registries name IconStreams and PastIconStreams. Select those and delete them if exists. Then repeat the same steps of killing explorer.exe method to get back your Volume Icon in case it is missing.
