The V-3 Super Cannon was one of Hitler’s most ambitious and unusual weapon projects during World War II. Designed to bombard London from Pas-de-Calais in France, the V-3 was a massive, multi-chambered cannon. Using sequentially ignited charges placed along the barrel, it could theoretically fire a 140-kilogram shell at a range of 165 kilometers with incredible velocity.

The project faced significant challenges, including Allied efforts to destroy it. One of the most tragic incidents occurred during Operation Aphrodite, where Lt. Joseph Kennedy Jr. piloted a B-24 bomber loaded with explosives toward the V-3 site. Unfortunately, the aircraft detonated prematurely, killing Kennedy and his co-pilot.

The V-3 project was ultimately abandoned after British forces dropped a 12,000-pound Tallboy bomb on its location in July 1944. While it never achieved its intended purpose, the V-3 remains a testament to the extreme lengths and experimental technologies pursued during the war.
