Students continued their agitation for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday in different places of the capital and in Savar demanding a gazette notification declaring half bus fare for students and safety for female passengers in public transports.
Students alleged that a group of activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League attacked the protesters.
The agitating students also gave the government an ultimatum to meet their two-point demand in 48 hours or else, they said, they would hold demonstration in the Nilkhet crossing on Thursday at 10:00am.
The student wings of various left-leaning political organisations also blocked the Nilkhet crossing for around one and a half hours demanding half fare for students at road and river transports and trains.
They also condemned the attack by BCL activists on agitating students.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police New Market Zone additional deputy commissioner Shahen Shah Mahmud told the media that an incident took place between two groups of students and a motorbike of a Dhaka College student was damaged, adding that the situation was quickly brought under control.
