Hi everyone, this is my cover of Song of Choice! I love this song by Peggy Seeger, and the arrangement by Solas (@solasmusic), one of my favourite celtic folk bands 💙💙💙

I’m really worried about how fascism is growing everywhere. Worried about all the people who are actual targets of their hate speech. This speech itself is violence, because it translates into violent actions and policies against LGBTQ + people, racialized people, women, and anyone out of the cis-heterosexual-white-man role, basically. Giacomo Matteotti said “Fascism isn’t an idea, it’s a crime”. He was an Italian socialist warning about the danger of letting fascism into institutions. In 1924, he was murdered by fascists, and we all know how history evolved.

Nowadays, some people try to justify hate speech and the existence of fascist parties under freedom of speech or democracy. I think this is one of the keys to understand how fascism gets into power: the passivity of the majority who are not direct targets of fascist violence. This is why I felt compelled to make a cover of this song.

Also, I have to mention the case of Pablo Hasél. He’s a Spanish rapper that was incarcerated recently for singing against the Monarchy. The court who did it comes straight from the fascist dictatorship we had here 46 years ago. Some of its judges are known to be former members of fascist parties, this is public information.

As it happened many times before, the police are responding with extreme violence to the protests in support of Pablo Hasél. So far, they hit a 19-year-old young woman in the eye and she lost it forever, along with many other injured and incarcerated people.
