- *Musical Style:*
Kosmosphär bears the typical characteristics of the Berlin School: Slow tempos, deep drones, expansive synth pads and repetitive arpeggios draw the listener into a hypnotic atmosphere. The band's music adopts an ambient style that gives the impression of floating in space, and at times contains tribal and meditative elements. Kosmosphär deals with the themes of cosmic journey in each of its compositions; it takes the listener to the infinity of space, the void between the stars and beyond time. Analog synthesizers, modular synths and sequencers are the band's most important musical tools.
- *Album:*
Discovered in the archives of West Berlin's underground electronic scene, Kosmosphär's legendary 1978 masterpiece "Gravitationswellen" represents the pinnacle of German cosmic music (Kosmische Musik). Erik Hostmann and Jürgen Kuchs created this immersive sonic journey through the mysteries of gravitational waves and interstellar space using only analog synthesizers, sequencers, and custom-built electronic instruments.
Recorded at Hansa Studios under the guidance of legendary producer Conny Plank, each track captures the hypnotic essence of cosmic phenomena translated into mesmerizing electronic soundscapes. The compositions feature Hostmann's mathematical precision on sequencers combined with Kuchs' intuitive approach to modular synthesis, creating the perfect balance between structure and improvisation.
This recently remastered version preserves the warm analog sound of the original Moog Modular, ARP 2600, and PPG Wave synthesizers while revealing previously unheard details in these expansive cosmic compositions.
A lost classic of Berlin School electronic music that influenced generations of ambient, space music, and techno artists. Experience cosmic exploration through pure analog sound.
