Will the West ever recover from the fact that African countries have decided to make their own choice? At a time when the world is going multipolar, members of the newly created AES Confederation, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, have decided to make their own path, forging new relations with non-Western countries. Recently, the foreign ministers of the three countries visited Russia where they met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. During the meeting, Russia voiced its support for the AES bloc, especially regarding building the AES defense. But how has the West taken this news? Let's find out.

When the foreign Ministers of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso announced on December 1st, 2023, that the three countries had plans to establish a confederation, Africans were filled with joy because this is something every true pan-African wishes for and it's a step to achieving African unity. At the time, the Foreign Ministers announced that top diplomats from each of the three countries had met in Bamako for two days where they had discussions on ironing out the workings of the new alliance between the three countries. They also emphasized the importance of diplomacy, defense, and development to consolidate political and economic integration. The Foreign Minister of Mali, Abdoulaye Diop, then noted that recommendations will be submitted to each head of state, who are due to meet in Bamako at an unspecified date. We all waited patiently for when the Confederation would be operational.

Finally, in July 2024, the bloc had its first summit, officially announcing the formation of the bloc. And now, as one of its first operations, the bloc is set to deploy a joint force of 5,000 soldiers to combat terrorism and transnational organized crime in the Sahel region. As we said at the beginning of the video, the AES was created by Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso to pool their efforts to combat insecurity and promote socio-economic development in the Sahel region which is considered the poorest region in Africa. Although rich in resources and has geographical importance because of its location, the region has not developed since Independence because of exploitation by the West, particularly France in conjunction with greedy African leaders. However, the leaders of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso have decided to create the AES to unite the people of the Sahel, fight insecurity and promote development without the influence of the West.
