
In the late 18 early 1900s, black communities in New Orleans, Louisiana married African rhythms and European harmonies and gave birth to a new form of music, Jazz. It is the art form which perhaps best exemplifies the melting pot that is American culture. And Jazz in turn delivered many new genres, including Rock and roll, Funk, reggae, R&B, and hip hop. Among the many, many legendary jazz musicians, 3 women stand out. Their lives and struggles paint a vivid picture of what it is like to be a woman in show business and a black person in America. And their artistic genius continues to inspire people across the globe. Let’s meet the Queens of Jazz, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald & Nina Simone.
