U.S. President Joe Biden and China’s Xi Jinping reached agreements on several key areas as they met on the sidelines of the APEC summit on Wednesday, including curbing illicit fentanyl production and resuming military-to-military communications.In a press conference following the hours-long meeting between the two leaders, Biden said the agreement would “significantly reduce the flow of precursor chemicals” from China.
“It’s going to save lives, and I appreciate President Xi’s commitment on this issue,” Biden said.
Biden also spoke about the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza, saying that it would stop when Hamas “no longer maintains the capacity to murder” Israelis. Biden added that he believes a two-state solution “is the only answer” to the continued unrest in the region.
