The Black 'N Blue Story. This week, we dive into one of glam metal’s most promising—and frustrating—what-could-have-beens: Black 'N Blue. Born out of Portland in 1981, they rode the glam wave straight to the Sunset Strip, armed with denim, leather, and anthemic rockers like "Hold On to 18" and "Miss Mystery." But behind their glossy MTV image was a band that constantly battled label interference, lost opportunities, and even claims of being ripped off—by the very producers who later helped Bon Jovi explode. With Gene Simmons of Kiss producing their later albums (and later admitting he stole a riff for Kiss’s "Domino"), Black 'N Blue seemed poised for greatness. Instead, they were pulled in too many directions, forced to chase radio singles while watching their tougher edge dissolve. Despite all that, their story didn’t end with their Geffen fallout in 1989. Frontman Jaime St. James would later front Warrant, drummer Pete Holmes would join Ratt, and guitarist Tommy Thayer would become the Spaceman himself in Kiss. From near-stardom to hard truths, this is the true story of Black 'N Blue. Kindly like and subscribe—it really helps the channel rock on.
