Markku Uula Aleksi Laiho, or more commonly known as Alexi Laiho was born in 1979 in Finland. He seemingly came from an incredibly musical family which no doubt put him on the path to becoming an accomplished musician.

Every member of my family played a musical instrument. My dad played the piano and organ, my mom played flute and sang in a choir, and my sister played the piano as well. My parents are still singing in choirs all over fuckin’ Finland - Alexi Laiho

It would actually be his sister that introduced him to Heavy Meta when he was just 7 years old. Alexi started playing the violin when he was 7 but he already had Hard Rock on his mind so it wasn’t very appealing to him.

At the age of 12 in 1991 he even applied to study at a Pop & Jazz institute in Finland and would eventually study here for 5 years.
