Kett's Rebellion in Norfolk, during the reign of Edward VI, was largely in response to the enclosure of land. This meant erecting physical barriers to the use of land by the common people in the interests of landowners. The revolt began at Wymondham on 8 July 1549 when a group of rebels destroyed fences that had been put up by wealthy landowners.
