Richard Branson's high speed transport dream look to be derailing themselves as the company laid off half of it’s staff early last week.
The original plan was to offer low cost and ultra-fast passenger transport by building trains that could travel through vacuum tubes at close to the speed of sound.
The problem was that these tubes were much more expensive and much less practical to build than the optimistic billionaire anticipated, by all passenger metrics it lost out to simple budget airlines…
Despite $450 million dollars in investment funding the company has had to lay off over 100 staff and shift their focus to cargo transport.
This move follows their main rival The Boring Company which ALSO shifted its focus from the supersonic trains of the future building gerbil mazes for Teslas.
