I'm Telling You, was written by Curtis Mayfield and Jerry Butler and originally recorded by the Impressions in 1961. Alabama native, Buddy Grubbs, got his start in the music business while stationed in Germany in the Army in the early 1960's, singing in clubs. Upon his return to the U.S. after his tour of duty was up, Grubbs formed a band that ended up as an opening act for artists like Ike And Tina Turner and Joe Simon. Grubbs came to the attention of record producer, Don Schroeder, who recorded him in his Pensacola, Florida studio on, I'm Telling You. Grubbs's cover version was light years away from the original including a world class scream during the fade out! Although his solo career never really got going, Grubbs, was utilized as a replacement for Bobby Purify in James And Bobby Purify in a couple of recordings in the early 1970's before Ben Moore formerly of Ben And Spence got the gig. Tragically, Grubbs died in a fishing accident in 1979 at the age of 39.
