In northwestern Turkey, a massive forest fire that broke out in the vast wooded areas stretching from the foothills of Uludağ to the slopes of the Katırlı and Samanlı mountains in Bursa spread rapidly due to strong winds and scorching heat. The blaze, which started between the districts of Gürsu and Kestel, forced the evacuation of 1,765 people and turned more than 100 hectares to ash. The inability to carry out aerial firefighting operations overnight allowed the fire to grow, while helicopters and planes resumed efforts at sunrise.
