
Originally released when the band was called 'The Boys Next Door' for the album 'The Birthday Party' in 1980. They changed their name to 'The Birthday Party' when they moved to London in 1980. It was then re-released on their single 'The Friend Catcher' on the legendary 4AD record label in 1980. It also featured on their self-titled 1982 album.
The Birthday Party was an Australian post-punk band, Active from 1977 to 1983. Originally called 'The Boys Next Door' they formed in Melbourne, the band were one of the darkest and most challenging post-punk groups to emerge in the early '80s, creating bleak and noisy soundscapes that provided the perfect setting for vocalist Nick Cave's difficult, disturbing stories of religion, violence, and perversity.
