This video is provided for the purposes of educational instruction on how to play these songs.
Guitar tone:
-- Harley Benton DC Kit (SG copy) Wilkinson Alnico 5 Bridge, Gibson 490R Neck, Gibson electronics and hardware. (B standard, Drop A tuning, 56 gauge, wound G string)
The Melvins song is a hybrid tuning B-D-A-D-F#-B
-- Proco RAT 2
-- Acapulco Gold Clone (Musikding Kit)
-- Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Fuzz
-- Boss Katana 50 MK1
-- Eminence Swamp Thang 1x12 Cab
-- Recorded Close Mic With SM57
(Low input switch is used on the Pharaoh, it has more headroom/less clipping. Germanium diodes, Fuzz/Gain 9 o'clock. The Pharaoh is basically acting as a clean preamp here, it just colors the tone slightly and reduces some harshness. Most of the dirt is coming from the RAT, that Acapulco just makes it nastier)
Neurosis: Steve Von Till uses the RAT as part of his live setup.
Thou: Andy Gibbs uses the RAT, you can see it on his live pedalbord.
Sunn O))): Obviously, this pedal is the core of this band's sound. I have seen Stephen Omalley's live pedalboard shots where he has 3 RATs running into each other.
Melvins: In the past, during the Houdini/Stoner Witch era Buzz Osborne has used the RAT as part of his rig.
Boris: Takeshi Ohtani has used the RAT live/in recording before, as it can be seen on previous pedalboard photos, but it seems to be missing on more recent pedalboard shots.
I release music as a solo artist under the band name "Directional". You can find my albums on the channel as well as on Bandcamp, Spotify, and all online platforms.
