Anne was only 11 when she inherited Brittany, the last Duchy independent from France. She married, by Proxy future Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. But before the couple could meet, King Charles VIII of France Swooped in, forced an annulment and married Anne himself. After she bore him 6 children, he died in a freak accent, and she was finally free. But Anne was pulled back to France to marry the new King, Louis XII and become Queen for a second time. While baring 5 more children, she patronized spectacular works of renaissance art. But she was repeatedly denied her heart’s desire, to return home to a truly independent Brittany. Let’s met Anne of Brittany.
