Chad Kou (born Thomas Lucas) is a selector and record collector from Douarnenez, Brittany. His journey through music began with composing scores for documentaries, a path that sparked a deep dive into sounds from across eras and continents. During a five-year stay in Belgium, Chad became a resident at audiophile venues such as L’altitude in Brussels and Gold in Ghent. It was there that he also unearthed a passion for second-hand vinyl, discovering independent record stores that slowly shaped and deepened his collection. Known for his extended, genre-fluid DJ sets, Chad is also the co-founder—alongside DJ Orañjez—of Kan Ha Disko, a series of events rooted in his native Finistère. A longtime sound system enthusiast, he builds DIY hi-fi setups that reflect the DJ culture he’s been immersed in since adolescence.

'During my five years in Brussels, I discovered a city full of incredible record shops and a vibrant scene centred around a musical genre I knew nothing about: Belgian jazz and its many influences, ranging from electronic music to psychedelic rock to afrobeat. In many ways, it felt like the city’s own soundtrack.

What followed were countless encounters and well-informed recommendations—thank you Raph Stark & Mamakis, Tropicall Records, Sono Ventura, Balades Sonores, Dust Dealers, Arlequin…

Thanks as well to the artists and labels offering up this extraordinary music that delights my ears every single day.
