No more fun way to exit a wonder of the world!!! 😁 For anyone interested in visiting the Great Wall or riding the toboggan, save this reel for later! 👇The Great Wall is huge! And there are many different sections of the wall you can visit. Here are some tips for each of the sections!
🚫 The most popular section to visit is Badaling because it is easiest to access from Beijing. But I would avoid visiting this section because it is also the most crowded. You will likely be waiting in long lines all day.
👉 The second most visited section, and equally as renovated is the Mutianyu section. This is where the toboggan ride is too! There still can be people, but not nearly as crowded as Badaling. And if you go early enough in the morning you can have this popular section of the wall and the toboggan ride almost completely to yourself. As of 2024, the round trip ride of the toboggan costs 120 CNY (about $16). Which includes a chairlift ride up to the Great Wall and the 5ish minute toboggan ride down! You can prebook online, but we had no problem buying the tickets when we arrived.
👉 But if you have time I would also highly suggest hiking on a more remote section of the wall like Jinshanling or Jiankou. It is likely that most of the time while you are hiking you will have the entire wall to yourself. This section is also not nearly as well preserved, making it harder to hike, but giving you a sense of what the wall would have looked like thousands of years ago!
