According to ancient Hawaiian legend, the beautiful and beloved princess Naupaka encountered a handsome fisherman named Kaui. When their eyes met, it was love at first sight.
However, she was an ali`i (royalty) and he was a maka`âinana (commoner), which made their love forbidden. Defying the gods with their love, their souls were eternally separated and imparted into flowers that were destined to grow apart.
As a symbol of their love, it is said that when Naupaka Kuahiwi, the half-flower from the mountain, joins Naupaka Kahakaithat resides by the seashore, the lovers are reunited once again.
Like the flower, we yearn to be whole. Located between the ocean and the mountains rests Naupaka Spa & Wellness Center.
