Thousands march in Bangladesh in support of Palestinians

Tens of thousands of students, professionals, and general people across Bangladesh took to the streets in major cities in Bangladesh on Monday, expressing their solidarity with the people of Palestine and denouncing Israel’s attack on Gaza.

The protesters carried Palestinian flags, placards, and banners conveying messages for solidarity and chanted slogans supporting the people of Palestine.

They also urged the global leaders to act fast to stop the killings in Gaza and the war.

On the day, the government of Bangladesh also expressed its strongest condemnation of killings in Gaza by Israeli forces and said it was a gross violation of human rights in the Gaza Strip.

The government of Bangladesh demanded that Israel immediately cease all military operations, exercise maximum restraint and abide by its duty under international humanitarian law.

All educational institutions – schools, colleges and universities – were earlier declared closed on the day, and teachers and students joined the processions in groups in the capital and elsewhere in the country.

The protesters demanded an end to the Israeli aggression and urged the Bangladesh government to pursue foreign policies supporting the struggles of Palestinians.

A huge number of women and children also joined the countrywide demonstrations.

Different political parties and other organisations also expressed solidarity with the Gazans, held demonstrations and issued statements.

The government of Bangladesh beefed up security in different areas, especially in the diplomatic areas, to avert any untoward incidents.
