After decades of involvement, Russia is leaving the International Space Station! For good! Soonish.

The head of Roscosmos, Russia's State Space Corporation, has announced that they'll be leaving the ISS 'after 2024'. The ISS, a collaborative multinational project, began out of the US' proposal for a "Space Station Freedom" (classic US name for literally anything) and Russia's proposal for Mir-2, their own station.

The station launched in 1998, and considering current global events, it's a bit sad to see them leaving the project- one could hope that scientific endeavour would persist through our other human failings. But the station itself won't be operating beyond 2030, so it's not totally surprising...
