Welcome to another week here at Domaine Sauvage, where we’re getting everything in place for this season’s renovation projects.

We kick things off with something that’s been a long time in the making: finally getting the roof rack installed on the van so we can collect the fixed piping that’s been waiting for us in Belgium. Once everything’s mounted, I hit the road while Philippe stays behind and starts clearing the way, moving Odin’s sandbox to prep for upcoming work on the driveway, and because it’s also in the way of moving the caravan.

I return with the van loaded, the crucial piping safely on board, and a little treat from Belgium. While unloading, Philippe gives himself a solid knock to the nose (ouch!), but we power through, get everything unpacked, and I give a quick update on the seeds I planted last week.

Next up, it’s time to move the caravan: a delicate operation through tight spaces that, thankfully, goes smoothly thanks to our neighbors and their 4x4. A well-earned Belgian beer follows! With that out of the way, Odin helps us refill his sandbox in its new, more permanent home.

As the week goes on, Philippe uses the excavator to clean up a few piles and deal with a pooling area behind the barn left over from the earlier digging days. To help redirect the water, he re-digs a much-needed trench… but things don’t go entirely to plan, and he ends up stuck. Once again, our wonderful neighbors come to the rescue.

And just in time too because the spring rains arrive in full force, putting our drainage efforts to the test. This week is a mix of practical prep, neighborly teamwork, and small steps forward that are setting us up for the next big push.
