Too close for comfort 😱😱PSA: power lines are hard to see in FPV goggles 😂 The other day I stopped at a great spot to do some mountain surfing. I checked all the usual boxes - looked for cell towers, checked the tightness of the prop nuts, checked the signal, made sure the GoPro was recording. Everything was fine. I noticed before takeoff that there was a set of power lines, so I made a mental note to go above them. I took off and headed that way.
As I was climbing, I saw the power lines in the goggles and climbed a bit to ensure I was above them. I got a little closer and thought, okay you’re clear. All of a sudden I noticed another set of lines above them whip by - almost invisible. I hadn’t seen them at all during the scout, and pretty much missed them by plain luck. My heart skipped a few beats, and I continued the climb.
Note to self, look CLOSELY at power lines to see how many there are or give them a wider berth lol. This time was a miss, but that definitely would’ve been a drone down and a walk of shame. Have you ever come this close?
