What he had in his pocket was more precious than anything else in the world. When he showed it to the woman behind the counter at the first jewelry who didn't kick him out, she asked him where the rest was.
The broken bracelet was actually his wife's, she was given the bracelet as a wedding present from her parents when she married him. However she had broke it while working in the field one day. Sometimes she takes it out to admire it.
The old man wanted to surprise his wife with a replacement after she suffered a bout of serious illness. But he's been on the hunt for something he can actually afford. Hearing this, the store owner showed him a piece of beautiful jade stone and let him have it for no markup price.
She named a price of $800 which was very low for a stone of that quality. The stone was decent although it's not the best. The old man was grateful and when he tried to pay, the woman told him to hold off on the payment for a bit.
Weeks later, she went to find them while they were working. Turns out, the stone had been processed and the bracelet turns out amazing.
The old lady was happy even though it's not the same as the one she had broken. The old was happy too and reached for his plastic bag of cash. But the woman only took $100 leaving the rest to him. Saying that she knows they need the money more than her.
