Blackmore is a talented player who may not get all the recognition he deserves. He was the driving force behind Deep Purple and the main factor in the formation of the metal subgenre. Blackmore then focused on the band—not the Eagles, which was a good representation of a popular music genre at the time—that he thought was the largest offender. It was none other than Fleetwood Mac, who had just debuted their blockbuster pop rock song Rumours at the top of the charts.
