He stopped the car asking them to come back up, turns out, they were trying to find recycling bottles to sell. Some of which had been thrown down there.
The man gave them a ride home knowing it's a long way. When they got there, their mother was already there. The kids left a crumpled bill to pay for the ride but the man didn't take it. The generous woman invited them home for dinner.
They witnessed her working and lifting things like a man. Her husband died 4 years ago and she has been adamant about never dating or marrying again. She cares for her children and mother in law full time. Taking odd jobs here and there.
