Characterised by its bright, intricate guitar improvisation and known for its club-focused dance rhythm, Soukous is one of the few genres that instantly gets people moving - it's designed to literally create happiness. Originating in Congo, where it was referred to as kwassa kwassa (after its signature dance) Soukous, derived from the French verb secouer, “to shake'', set the foundation for contemporary African music like Highlife, Palmwine Music and Zouk.

I've selected some of my favourite tracks from the likes of Tchico, Diblo Dibala, Tonye Jackson and more - but I highly encourage you to check out more from the genre, it's hard to be disappointed. Life can be difficult, but I hope that with the time you take to listen to this mix, there can be joy. "
