On March 21, 1996, Randy Winans, Sam, and Eric—set out for a day of adventure. It was Eric’s first-ever caving trip, and his enthusiasm was contagious. Fault Cave, near Denver, was known for its treacherous passages and eerie, haunting echoes. Locals had even nicknamed parts of the cave with ominous names like the “Crack of Doom,” a menacing narrow slot that had trapped many before. It was as though the cave itself was alive, waiting for the next victim to make one wrong move, ready to swallow them whole.
Equipped with little more than torches and basic gear, they weren’t exactly prepared for the challenges the cave was infamous for, but the thrill was undeniable. Randy had done a few caving trips before, but for Eric, this was a completely new world. They trekked through the dense forest towards the entrance of the cave.
