Is it worth building boutique tube amps anymore?
Times have changed. Finding deals on components, tubes, etc are history. Making boutique amps used to be a nice little source of income. Not now. With the market today, its hard just to break even on parts costs. Tariff's dont help the situation. Look at what has happened to transformer & tube costs! Build time is not worth putting in the equation. So, it may be time for me to redirect my focus. Doing a build for your personal use & learning is still a good investment. However, I would not recommend it as a way of making a living. I still enjoy building, even though I know it wont line my pockets with gold. Now lower income taxable levels also hinder the possibilities. I would probably do better flipping burgers. What are your thoughts?
