
Lofer is a market town in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg (state) in Austria. It also hosts a modest ski resort, with 14 major runs. It is located at an elevation of 626 m above sea level, in the valley of the Saalach river. As of 2001, Lofer had a population of 1,943. Although the valley's smallest community in terms of area (just 55 km²), its population of 2,000 actually makes it the most heavily populated of the Saalach Valley's four towns.
