"In the Hall of the Mountain King" was the first classical piece I learned on guitar. My guitar teacher at the time wanted me to learn it. I quickly figured out why: Metallica had covered it at a concert in San Diego in the 1990s, and with Metallica, my guitar teacher had a plausible reason for me to learn it.

My guitar cover of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is very experimental. I shift the main theme by several notes, underscoring the whole thing with synthesizers, a psychedelic drum kit, and a driving bass. In my case, the main theme is the guitar solo.

Edvard Grieg was a genius, and in my opinion, he's vastly underrated. I was born and live in Leipzig, and Edvard Grieg studied there, so it's fitting that I cover "In the Hall of the Mountain King."

I dedicate this cover to Edvard Grieg.
