Dark matter is a mysterious type of matter that makes up about 27% of the universe, but it doesn’t emit, absorb, or reflect light, so we can’t see it directly. Scientists discovered dark matter by observing that galaxies spin much faster than expected based on the mass we can see, like stars, gas, and dust. This suggests there must be extra invisible mass creating additional gravity to hold the galaxies together. Although we don’t yet know what dark matter is made of, it doesn’t interact with normal matter except through gravity. Physicists are trying to detect it using special experiments, but so far, it remains one of the biggest unsolved puzzles in modern physics.
