Fresh off his performances in China and the release of “Vultures 2,” it has become clear that Ye is not the Kanye we once knew.

This is a deep dive / video essay about how Ye, the artist formally known as Kanye West, has entered a point in his career that we all feared was on the horizon for some time now. The “Kanye is washed” moment, or as I like to call it “Post-Ye.”

The last few years of Kanye’s career have been chaotic to say the least. Nonstop controversy, listening parties to albums that never dropped, albums dropping completely unfinished. You could describe this as a typical Kanye rollout since 2016’s The Life of Pablo but in the 2020s it has gotten much worse.

With the release of his latest three albums post 2021’s Donda, things haven’t sounded this bad…truly ever for him. AI verses, reference tracks, unfinished songs and generic production have plagued his latest drops. Donda 2, Vultures 1 & Vultures 2 (made in collaboration with Ty Dolla Sign) perfectly encapsulate this new era of Kanye West. An era that’s only ability to stay afloat is off the goodwill of what came before.

This hasn’t been more apparent than in the last few weeks, where Kanye has taken the stage in a series of live performances in Asia (including South Korea & Haikou, China), in which Ye has began to perform his own version of the Taylor Swift Era’s Tour, while also debuting new snippets of music like the song “PREACHER MAN” off his next project. It has gotten fans more excited than they have been in years and that’s the problem. It’s not the new music that gets the people going, it’s the old.
