On cover: The Loved Ones
Hello everything! Wow! Finally, here comes the “Big Seventeenth”. Aren’t we back with more than what was expected? THIRTY-THREE wild sydes from the finest sixties’ unknowns!! I assure you: you won’t believe what you’ll hear!
Let’s dig out what we can find about these ones!
A1- Alan Franklin Explosion was a band from Tampa, Florida. They recorded two albums between 1969 and 1970, with an insane lo-fi sound, the first time as The Blues Climax. ‘Peace Of Your Love’ was recorded three times, here is the single version. More info here:
- The Blues Climax - J.C. 888-4 (1970)
A2- The Coronados was a band from Jacksonville, Florida. They issued two singles around 1967. This is the A side of the second one, which is a punchy cover of the Dave Meadows And The Neanderthals’ song of the same name, here arranged with fuzz touches! More info here:
- Bellcor – BEL-102 (Mar 1965)
A3- [Update] Danny Wyant was an artist from Deer Lodge County, Montana. He won a talent contest on TV and a recording contract with Love Records at the age of 17. This was the first single he ever recorded, but this beats!
- Love Records – L-797 (1971)
A4- Bryan Peters (whose real name was Denny Boncimino) was an artist from Niles, IL. He wrote and performed several songs and this one was played on WLS radio in Chicago in 1965 or 1966.
- Century Records – 27916 (1968)
A5- Grandma’s Rockers was a band from Iowa. They issued one album in 1967, featuring a lot of covers and this song, the only original by the band. The song was written by David Lange, who was later involved in the Guys Who Came From Upstairs’ single the next year.
More info here:
- Fredlo – 6727 (1967)
A6- Denny Noie & The In Crowd (aka Denny Noie & The 4th Of Never) was a band from the Winter Park, Florida area. They issued only this single, best known for the other side ‘Don’t Follow Me’, which I also really dig! Denny Noie was also involved in a couple of other bands, including The Golden Catalinas.
- Tener – TC 150 / TC 151 (1967)
A7- The Galaxies IV was a band from New Jersey. They issued three singles, but they’re famous for their wild ‘Don’t Lose Your Mind’. This is their first single.
- Veep – V 1211 (1965)
A8- The Floyd Dakil Four was one of the next bands of Floyd Dakil after Floyd Dakil Combo and their well known ‘Dance Franny Dance’. Floyd Dakil was from Childress County, Texas (what a name!) and released a dozen of singles through the sixties, then disbanded, having been unable to re-create the success of their first single. Floyd’s story ended sadly when he committed suicide in 2010.
- Earth – 45-403 (1968)
B1- The Gentle Touch was a band from Hamilon, Ontario. They issued this single on RCA Victor Canada International. The band included Bruce Ley, who was involved in a handful of bands, also as one of the leading figures of the canadian disco scene, and is still active today. More info here:
- RCA Victor Canada International – 57-3408 (1966)
B2- Gary & The Counts is a mystery band from Mountain View, CA, including John Kitzrow and Gary Lee.
- Ripcord Records – S-2666 (1966)
