This week’s playlist took me back to 1986—a year full of ambition, uncertainty, and raw emotion. It was less than a year since I’d lost my dad. I’d signed a publishing deal, my band Tantrum had demos being passed around labels, and I was living on the edge financially, choosing records with care, gambling with every penny of my dole money.
Music was more than a passion—it was therapy. And these were the albums that helped shape that year for me.
I share the albums that shaped a year full of change, loss, and hope. From Judas Priest’s misunderstood Turbo, Van Halen’s Sammy Hagar debut, and David Lee Roth’s bombastic solo outing, to hidden gems by Tesla, Keel, and Vinnie Vincent—and a surprise favourite from Tangerine Dream.
