After looking for a home for over a year, we found that the houses in our area mostly fell within 2 categories:

1. Very outdated and needing a ton of work
2. Brand new but very expensive
We ended up getting an accepted $70k offer on a property in our area but pulled out after finding a lot of termite damage during the inspection phase. At that point we took a step back, and we realized that doing a full-gut rehab or having a 30 year mortgage on a nicer home was not something we wanted. Ultimately we decided on building our own home, working as our own General Contractor. In this video, we explain why we chose this route, and how we plan to self-build our debt-free home!
