Deathcore is no longer the new kid on the block, but a rich, multi-dimensional genre with sturdy institutional support, a loyal fanbase and nearly two decades of history to its name. Earlier this year, Revolver published a written list of 15 essential deathcore albums that ranged from pioneering classics (Suicide Silence, Whitechapel) to crucial selections from the genre’s new generation (AngelMaker, Shadow of Intent).

Then, we asked Kyle Anderson — frontman of the Canadian deathcore crushers Brand of Sacrifice, and an expert on the genre — to react to every album on the list, explain the impact each one had on the genre, and reveal the influence they had on his own music.
