He's the only employee in the entire zoo. He's the ticket seller, he's the cleaner, he's the receptionist. 30 years ago, he started this zoo and has never had a day off since.
He could've had a good retirement but he spends every pennies on his animals. His zoo functions more like an animal shelter, the entrance fee is really just to keep the zoo operational. Most of the animals are rescued, they are either abandoned, injured, or found all alone. Some were sick and no one wanted them. Some were left by circus who could no longer use the animals.
He was especially sad when someone poisoned his lion and broke the shells of his turtles. He once slept at the freshly buried lion grave so that he can make sure no one steal its fur. That was probably the reason the lion was poisoned in the first place, for the highly sought after fur.
He's upset that over the past 30 years, visitors to his zoo has only gotten fewer. He took out loans to operate this zoo and it's vital that enough visitors come for the zoo to keep functioning. It takes him an entire day to feed all his animals. It's part of the reason he can't afford to hire help.
He also takes lots of dogs and cats who have nowhere to turn to. He refused to cut his hair because he's afraid that the animals won't recognize him anymore.
The man and his girlfriend doing the filming couldn't do much to help besides trying to spread words about this old man's zoo. Do you think he deserves more visitors?
